  4. Since 1964, SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives
  5. Association, has provided retired professional managers from all
  6. disciplines to provide management assistance to the current
  7. generation of small-business owners. SCORE has nearly 800 offices
  8. nationwide and 13,000 volunteer SCORE counselors to provide you
  9. assistance. And it's all free to the client. SCORE is sponsored
  10. by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

  12. It may sound too good to be true, but each year, over 150,000
  13. people come to SCORE to get help with their business planning,
  14. whether it be in starting up a business or keeping it operating
  15. profitably. After determining your needs, a SCORE counselor with
  16. a similar background will be assigned to you. For example, if you
  17. need help in setting up a ready-to-wear store, a counselor with
  18. retail experience--most likely from ready-to-wear--will be your
  19. counselor. In this way, your counselor knows the territory you
  20. are about to chart. He or she is able to help divert you from
  21. some of the problems that may impede your success and help you
  22. plan for proper business development. He or she will be able to
  23. help with relevant things such as how to deal with manufacturers,
  24. getting proper types and levels of credit, etc. And since no one
  25. person can be all things, your counselor may call in other
  26. counselors with expertise from fields such as accounting,
  27. marketing, finance, and so forth. You can meet with your
  28. counselor(s) as often as you like. Many SCORE clients touch base
  29. for years just to get an independent perspective from someone
  30. they trust.

  32. Since 1964, over 2.5 million business people have sought the
  33. assistance of SCORE's seasoned professional managers--managers
  34. that have 30 or 40 years of experience and have seen the
  35. roadblocks and surpassed them. Their experience is invaluable.
  36. There's a SCORE Chapter office near you where you can tap into
  37. this rich lode of experience. The service is free, the advice is
  38. priceless!
